CBD supplements for animals

Unknown situations such as New Year's Eve, travelling, separation from owners or visits to the vet can quickly lead to restlessness, stress or even anxiety in our pets. CBD oils are very trendy and can provide support. Here we take a look at three oils from different manufacturers.

The abbreviation CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is found in female cannabis plants, but unlike the better-known THC, it has no psychoactive effect - so it does not make you "high". CBD is becoming more and more popular and is often used when it comes to well-being. By the way, you have to be careful with cats: The terpenes contained in the hemp plant are toxic for them in the long run. Oils for cats must be free of terpenes and therefore always be specially prepared.

A distinction must be made between full-spectrum oils, which are pressed completely from the hemp, and carrier oils to which CBD has been added. MCT oils are mostly used as carrier oils. MCT oils consist of short-chain fatty acids – an example being coconut oil.

Vitrasan: CBD hemp oil for dogs

A natural CBD oil with a CBD content of 4.2 % for dogs. Available in 10 and 20 ml sizes.

Ingredients

Cold-pressed organic hemp oil from hemp plants and hemp seeds. Naturally contains 420 mg CBD per 10 ml oil. The product is THC free and low in terpenes.

Conclusion

This is a hemp oil with natural CBD content from a special cold pressing process. The oil is certified organic, which means that the cultivation of the hemp plants protects nature and biodiversity. The oil is low in flavor and free of THC, but contains terpenes. This makes it unsuitable for cats. The smallest amount available is 10ml. Since CBD oil has a shelf life of 9 months after opening, this pack size is rather unsuitable for small dogs. The oil is freely available online to anyone, allowing patient owners to use it without consultation with or advice from a vet.

Vet CBD

CBD oil for dogs, cats and horses, available in various sizes and concentrations.

Ingredients

VetCBD 5% Dog: hemp extract, coconut oil, CBD (cannabidiol) 5%, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) < 0.2

Conclusion

VetCBD offers products for different animal species, each adapted in pack size and concentration. It is also available with special adaptation for cats with a version that is free of terpenes. The products for dogs and horses are full-spectrum oils, which means that the full range of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids of the hemp plant are included. VetCBD products are not available for pet owners to buy over-the-counter or in online shops, which ensures a prior consultation with and examination by a veterinarian.

Hempamed: CBD for dogs

An aromatic oil made from organic broad spectrum hemp extract and salmon oil from sustainable fisheries for dogs. Available in 10ml with 6% CBD.

Ingredients

Sustainable salmon oil, organic broad spectrum hemp extract, CBD 6%.

Conclusion

Salmon oil from sustainable fishing is used here. Salmon oil has a positive influence on acceptance and also provides omega-3 fatty acids. The oil contains terpenes and is therefore only approved for dogs. It is only offered in 10ml bottles and is therefore not suitable for small dogs. CBD for dogs is freely available online for everyone.

SativaLife Vet Oil

Salmon oil with added CBD, for cats and dogs. Available in 10ml size.

Ingredients

Cold-pressed salmon oil with 5% added CBD and vitamin E.

Conclusion

Due to the salmon oil base, the oil is also a supplier of omega-3 fatty acids, which is beneficial to the body and needs to be taken in with the food. Salmon oil tastes good for cats and dogs alike, which ensures good acceptance, but it is not vegan. SativaLife Vet oil is freely available to everyone via online trade.
